One thing I’ve been working on A LOT in my life is balance. Especially, when it comes to social media and emails.
I feel like I (we) spend SO much time on social media and sifting through emails, that a lot of time I feel like the day has escaped me.
Between work and this blog, I’m a busy gal (we all are, right?). So, it’s important to me, to plan.
I’ve been a planner for as long as I can remember, so that’s what I do pretty much every morning. I schedule what I’m going to do that day and sometimes make a list for the other days of the week. It keeps me on track, helps me focus and I don’t stress as much. BUT, make sure with this that you don’t set expectations because life gets in the way and you don’t want to set yourself up for disappointment.

Now I know not everyone out there blogs, but I do know that we can get carried away checking our emails multiple times a day and spend hours on Pinterest (guilty!).
I usually check my email when I sit down to work. I answer what needs to be answered and step away from that, at least until it’s lunch. If someone wants to get a hold of me and it’s urgent, they have my number.
It’s also great when people know that you have a routine of not answering right away or have certain times when you do respond. If you get in the habit of responding to everyone immediately, your life will be stuck on your phone/computer and who wants that?
I know someone who checks their email twice a day and doesn’t respond after a certain time.
You want to make sure you leave yourself time, well, for yourself.
Also, I recently spent a little bit of time cleaning up my inbox. Nothing is more frustrating than seeing an inbox full of emails I never answer. I used this and it was very quick and easy!
I’ve been working hard on trying to limit my time on social media and find it frees up so much time in my day (which is amazing). I check it the most when I’m eating lunch or to be honest, before bed (working on this).
As a blogger, it’s easy to convince myself that social media is “work”, but I know there are more efficient ways to run my social media.
One of my favourite tools to schedule my social media posts on Instagram is Later. It’s super easy to use and it helps me get content out. A lot of the time, though, if I take a picture in the moment, I’ll post it myself.
If I’m doing research for blog posts or updating my social media, I will plan for it. It takes time to plan, but it’s worth it when you’re able to do what you want on nights/weekends, etc.
I use to have notifications on everything on my phone but have stopped because it legitimately drives me crazy. If you have constant notifications ringing in your ear, you’ll always be distracted.
Work on slowly getting rid of notifications on your phone and you will be happier. Like I said before when you have the time, you will get to it.
